Tubes for collection and transfering of samples

Remember: Blood must flow into the tubes quickly. Mix the blood by rotating each tube rapidly around the longitudinal axis and moving it slowly so that the blood moves from the bottom to the cap and vice versa. Avoid violent shaking of the sample.
Dispose of the needle in the special needle disposal container or in an improvised safety device.

Remember: From the first moment the blood comes in contact with the needle and syringe, it begins to coagulate and hemolyze. Both reduce the reliability of the results. That is why they must be kept to a minimum: 1) The whole process must be very fast. 2) Sample handling should be gentle.

Blood collection

The tubes being used are the following:

• Tube SODIUM CITRATE 3.2% with 1/9 1.8 mL (Blue): minimum sample volume 1.8 mL for PT, APTT, FIBRINOGEN, LUPUS ANTICOAGULANT, PROTEIN C, PROTEIN S, ANTITHROMBIN III ACTIVITY, D-DIM.
• Anticoagulant-free tube (Yellow): minimum sample volume 0.5 mL to 3.5 mL depending on the number of tests required.
• EDTA Tube 1 mL (Purple): minimum sample volume 1 mL for FBC, ACTH, ABO, COOMBS DIRECT, RETICS.
• EDTA Tube 2 mL (Purple): minimum 2 mL sample volume for FBC / ESR, ABO, COOMBS DIRECT, HB ELECTROPHORESIS, RETICS.

TRANSFER OF SAMPLES

The sample transfer system is a key element of the accreditation of our laboratory but mainly the reliability of the results. For this reason we must ensure the conditions so that samples be transported in an appropriate manner.

Based on the knowledge and experience we recommend the following procedure:

1. After separation of the samples, to be placed in the refrigerator or freezer.
2. Just before the transfer to be packed at the last minute to enter the ice packs and the box closes very well.
3. The special ice bags must be placed at least 24 hours in the freezer. In between the ice packs we place the samples. To avoid freezing of the samples between each ice packs and samples tissue papers must be placed.
